Brazilian Butt Lift

Questions Before Brazilian Butt LiftThe Internet is a great tool for learning about almost everything including cosmetic procedures like the Brazilian butt lift (BBL). The BBL is a technique for butt augmentation that has become incredibly popular over the years and most patients who have had it recommend the procedure to others. But no matter how much information is available on the Internet, consulting with a surgeon is a must if you are actually planning to undergo the procedure. To help you get started, here is a list of the most important questions you must ask your surgeon regarding BBL.

  1. Am I a good candidate for a BBL?

Before anything else, you would want to know if you are a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift. Anyone who is generally healthy is a good candidate for the procedure. The most important deciding factor is the amount of fat the surgeon can work with. BBL is preferred by surgeons over butt implants because of the lower complication rate and the added benefit of removing fats in areas where they are unwanted. Butt implants are better suited for patients who don’t have enough fat.

  1. How is the procedure performed?

You’ll want the surgeon to explain how the procedure is done so you will have an idea how long it will take and what to expect during and after the operation. Typically, a Brazilian butt lift consists of liposuction, fat processing/purification and fat injection. Each of these steps is important in ensuring the success of the entire surgery.

Liposuction is the first step in BBL because this is when the fat to be injected into the butt area is obtained. Compared to ordinary liposuction, liposuction for BBL is performed utilizing a low suction pressure to preserve the integrity of the fat cells. Once obtained, the fat is then processed using a centrifuge to get rid of dead or unhealthy cells while retaining only the good cells. The processed or purified fat will then be re-injected into the butt area using a small cannula.

  1. How long will the procedure take?

A properly done Brazilian butt lift takes at least five hours. The duration is primarily due to the careful and meticulous extraction and reinjection of fat. The entire operation may take longer than five hours depending on the amount of fat that has to be gathered and the increase in butt size that the patient desires. It is important to have an idea of how long the procedure will last because a BBL that is done too fast will compromise the quality of the results. If the surgeon says that he can do it in 4 hours or less, he is probably planning to take some shortcuts that will lead to less predictable and less acceptable results that won’t last as long as they should. A good surgeon can have a BBL done in an average of five to eight hours.

  1. How will my body look after the procedure?

The answer to this question helps you determine what to expect from the procedure and if the results the surgeon can give you are up to your standards. It is extremely important for you and your surgeon to consider how your whole body, and not just the butt, will look after the operation. Most patients only care about the increase in size of their butt rather than what looks good overall. Again, patients must take note that the objective of BBL is to give the patient a more proportionate-looking body and not just a bigger butt.

  1. Will I need touch-up procedures in the future?

This is probably one of the best questions to ask your surgeon. More often than not, touch-up and maintenance visits are necessary to ensure the longevity of the results. A surgeon who tells you otherwise is probably lying and afraid of you backing out from having the procedure. The injected fat gets reabsorbed by the body over time and this happens much faster if the surgeon took shortcuts in performing BBL.

  1. Is a BBL safe?

The Brazilian butt lift is safer compared to other methods of butt augmentation. Since your own tissue is used to increase your butt size, the chance of rejection or any other adverse reaction is close to none. Of course, there are still complications, but they are much lower compared to other techniques.
