The recovery time after butt augmentation surgery depends on a number of factors including the type of augmentation procedure performed and the overall health of the patient. In general, buttock augmentation is performed by the placement of butt implants or the transfer of fat into the booty.
In order to place butt implants into the backside of a patient, an incision is made below the gluteus maximus muscle. The incision is created between the butt cheeks so the implants can easily be placed in the butt.
Fat transfer into the booty is performed via a surgery known as a Brazilian butt lift (BBL). Excess and stubborn fat, which is resistant to being removed via diet or exercise, is removed from the targeted area of the body through the use of liposuction. The removed fat is processed and purified before it is injected into the butt of the patient to provide the desired amount of augmentation.
The length of the recovery time varies per patient as well as the choice of butt augmentation procedure. Since the placement of butt implants requires a larger incision in order to properly position them, the recovery time will be longer. The removal of fat, as well as the transfer of the processed and purified fat, does not require lengthy incisions on the part of the surgeon. Because of that fact, the recovery time from a BBL is usually less than the placement of implants in the backside of a person.
No matter which type of butt augmentation procedure is performed, the patient can expect to experience some bruising and swelling in the treated area. Patients will also not be able to put any weight or pressure on their buttocks immediately following the procedure. The amount of time required to not put any pressure on the buttocks can be anywhere from two weeks to two months. Patients that have a job that requires them to sit throughout a good portion of the day might need to take an extended period of time off work in order to enjoy the proper amount of healing.
Patients that undergo a Brazilian butt lift will also need to recover from the liposuction surgery so they will need to include that in their recovery plan.
Strenuous exercise will need to be avoided immediately after the procedure. Patients cannot place any pressure or weight on their buttocks and vigorous exercise can also impact the healing process by shifting the butt implants (such as flipping or rotating them). Exercising too soon after a BBL can prevent the transferred fat cells from “taking hold” in their new location in the butt. If too many fat cells are displaced, this can lead to a reduction in the amount of volume the patient will enjoy after the procedure.
Because of the inability to place pressure on the butt, patients will need to rest on their stomach and avoid moving around too much immediately after the surgery. It is advised that patients have friends or family members stay with them during the initial recovery period in order to minimize any strain they put on the treated area.
Patients who are interested in undergoing buttock augmentation are advised to schedule an appointment with a board-certified doctor who is experienced in performing both Brazilian butt lift and the placement of butt implants. The doctor will examine the patient to make sure the person is healthy enough to have the procedure of choice. Anyone that wants to undergo a Brazilian butt lift needs to have enough excess and stubborn fat located somewhere else on the body so it can be removed via liposuction. The transferred fat cannot come from the body of another person so, if the patient does not have enough fat to be transferred, a Brazilian butt lift cannot be performed to achieve the desired results.
The consultation appointment is also the ideal time for patients to ask questions because they will be in a one-on-one setting with the doctor. The surgeon should be willing to answer any and all questions asked by their patients. If the doctor is not able to answer questions or is not willing to answer them during the consultation appointment, that doctor is likely not the ideal choice to perform the buttock enhancement.
Finally, it is important for the doctor to set realistic expectations when it comes to the final results. There is a fine line between results that are natural in appearance and results that can give a person an unrealistic look to the backside. If the results are not natural in appearance, it will be obvious to others that some sort of surgical procedure has been performed to augment the butt. Realistic expectations are also important because they set a clear goal or ending in the mind of the patient. Realistic expectations also work to prevent the person undergoing the surgery from being surprised or upset by the final look of the augmentation procedure.
